CS 373 SWE Spring 2020 Week of 9/14: Rishi Salem
What did you do this past week?
We didn’t do too much in class this last week, so I was mainly working on projects for other classes and on non-class activities. I did take the CATME survey required to form a team, as well, but it had less questions than I was expecting considering it apparently makes very good teams.
What’s in your way?
I don’t have a team yet, which is the main problem I have when it comes to working on project 2. I can’t work on anything without an idea, and can’t come up with an idea for an entire team without first meeting the team.
What will you do next week?
Once I have the team, I will meet them, interact with them and start on our first project. I also have several projects due and the career fair, so it’ll be a busy week!
What was your experience of exceptions, IDB1, and types? (this question will vary, week to week)
It was interesting to hear about the “finally” part of the try-except block. I don’t recall anything like that in c++.
Regarding IDB1, it looks like it’ll be an interesting project, where I’ll have to learn a lot of new processes and to use new tools! It should be fun. I am a little wary about choosing a topic, though, because it’ll have to promote civic engagement and I don’t know what that entails.
What made you happy this week?
I helped make a cake this week! It turned out quite well, and the process was fun as well. I should try to make more time to bake.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
This week I learned that while Visual Studio has several benefits when it comes to debugging c++, Visual Studio Code has benefits when it comes to using other tools that VS doesn’t support. It even has an extension for docker! I don’t know exactly what it does but I intend to find out. To anyone else with a windows machine, I recommend it as well!
