CS 371p Spring 2020: Week of 3/30

1. What did you do this past week?

This week, I finished the allocators project and participated in test 1b. I also acclimated to the new online learning tools we are using and set up my work environment at home.

2. What’s in your way?

I now need to prepare for the next project, Darwin. Since we will not be given any source code, I will probably need to do a lot more planning in advance, especially if I am to remain within the parameters of the project in terms of avoiding getters and setters.

Before I plan for the project, I intend to improve my c++ coding environment so that I can use it without accessing a lab machine, and I need to learn how to create good UML diagrams.

3. What will you do next week?

This upcoming week, I will prepare for the Darwin project and plan all the classes I need. By the time the weekend comes around I hope to be ready to finish the coding in one fell swoop.

4. What was your experience of Test #1b? (this question will vary, week to week)

The test went fairly well. It was a relief to be able to collaborate, both because it made me more confident in my answers and because having a second pair of eyes helped us all to find bugs in our code much more quickly than we could have done on our own.

5. What made you happy this week?

I was fairly relieved to complete the allocators project on time. I had far more bugs than I anticipated, and at least one was caused because I didn’t prepare my coding environment completely and forgot to convert the line endings when moving the test files from my windows computer to the linux lab machines.

6. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to go outside and get fresh air! I know I haven’t been doing that as much as I should, and I’m already feeling a little under the weather because of it. Sunshine and wind are important resources and I intend to restock on them as soon as I can.
